Academic work submitted by students shall be the result of their thought, research, or self-expression. Academic work is defined as, but not limited to, tests and quizzes, whether taken electronically or on paper; projects, either individual or group; classroom presentations; and homework.
The same is true in this class. News Reporting I proceeds by sequential writing activities. Your consistent attendance is essential to your success in this course and isrequired. I will be on time and ask that you arrange transportation and your work or home schedule to enable you to be on time, also.
If you miss more than three classes, I reserve the right to withdraw you from the course without notice. Once you are withdrawn, I will not reinstate you. The only exception to this policy is for medical or family emergencies, for which I require documentation.

Students will apply their learning by writing spot news pieces, profiles, and longer form articles. The course is modular, so you will build basic skills one at a time while. About the Course: JOUR, News Writing and Reporting I, is a skills-based immersion in the world of journalism. Attendance is checked at the beginning of eachclass period. A student at ACC is expected to attend classes in order to progress satisfactorily toward completion of course objectives.

Cellular telephones, pagers, email and the Internet may not be used during class time. A violation of this is discourteous, and I will ask you to leave class. No texting during class time. If you are expecting an emergency telephone call, you may leave your cellular on.
Penalty for late assignments and tardiness: Many of the major written graded assignments and all daily in-class assignments are to be completed within the minute class period.
Class begins at I require that you be on time for class. Should you be late and not have time to complete work, please do not ask for extra time. When a student is absent from class, thus missing an assignment, and later turns in the missed assignment to the instructor, the assignment grade is penalized by ten points per day for each class day occurring from the assignment date until and including the date the work is submitted.
If you are ill, if you are late for class and cannot complete an assignment, if you are absent, if you sleep in, etc. Please do not request leniency with respect to this departmental policy.
No incompletes will be given in this class. Each ACC campus offers support services for students with documented physical or psychological disabilities. Students with disabilities must request reasonable accommodations through the Office for Students with Disabilities on the campus where they expect to take the majority of their classes.

Homework and daily work: Homework assignments are due at the beginning of the class period of the day after they are assigned.
